“I want to be a direct link to the information they need”

Jefferson Parish, LA – Scott Walker is seeking re-election as Division B Councilor for Jefferson Parish, as he announced on June 29, 2023 through his social networks and in the second round he will maintain his leadership approach based on transparency and honesty as fundamental pillars to carry out the position that requires responsibility and conviction, as he declared to Jambalaya News.

The first time Walker ascended to the position was in October 2019, with 56% of the vote, and although this was his first launch for political office, his face was already known in the media. His profession as a communicator popularized him locally and nationally.

Within his career as a communicator, in the years 2015 and 2016, Scott won an Emmy Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, a National Headliner Award and a Gabriel Award for his reporting on former saint Steve Gleason’s fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, he was also awarded in 2016 with the award for “Best Talent” by the New Orleans Press Club and with the award for “Best Local News Anchor ” .

In his re-election for the next elections that will take place on October 14, 2023, Scott Walker wants to connect with the Hispanic population, a desire that is evident from his digital platforms. A few months ago he launched a Facebook in Spanish . Jambalaya News asked why until now? To which he replied:

“The Latino community is growing in Jefferson Parish, it makes up about 18% of our total population; I’m honestly upset that I didn’t do it sooner, from a news and information standpoint, I know the Latino community wants a lot more, it’s a void that I hope we’re helping to fill, I want to be a direct link to the information they need. “

“If we don’t make sure our youngest students (0-4 years old) have the right foundation in place early, they’re not going to be successful later,” he added .

Regarding the ‘Driver’s Licenses for All‘ in Louisiana campaign , which is being developed by Familias Unidas en Acción and which is supported by Jambalaya News Louisiana, Walker told us “I am following this issue and learning more about it.” In general, I think people who are citizens of Louisiana and are of legal age should get their driver’s license.”

He stressed that economic development is a topic of interest in all areas, so he shared ideas for improvement that he has in his sights. “It’s critical that the Esplanade Mall regenerate sales tax.” You have to fill the empty storefronts, for example in Williams, near the lake. Some areas need to be cleaned up, and that depends on people taking care of their property and taking pride in their place of residence. “Despite some of the challenges, there is a lot of untapped potential at Kenner” .

The charismatic social communicator and now elected official must defend his position against his opponent Dominick Impastato.
